Health & Safety

There is a form for parents to complete regarding first aid and outings.
There is always a trained first aider present and all the staff understand fully the fire drill procedure.
We have a no smoking policy throughout the school.
No medicine will be administered to a child unless the medication records book has been completed.

Equality and Diversity

Whilst acknowledging the existence of discrimination in society, Huffle Nursery School and Jack and Jill Nursery does everything possible by its actions and decisions in the day to day running of the nurseries to eliminate or avoid any discrimination. We do not discriminate with regard to culture, race, gender, special needs, language, religion and age. There have been a wide variety of special needs children who have attended the schools, from both children who were assessed with special needs before entry and children assessed while at nursery. We have considerable expertise with special needs within the staff. We also have experience of children whose first language is other than English. There is wheelchair access into Huffle.

This policy is monitored by the staff on a continuing basis.

Admissions Procedure

There is a registration form, which must be completed before the child enters the school. Each child is encouraged to make two pre-start visits with their parents. On entry as long as the parents are confident, we encourage them to leave quite quickly and telephone if they are worried. Experience has shown that this is the least stressful for both the parents and the child. Frequently a fretful child has settled before the parents have driven away and a message can be sent out to an anxious parent that all is well.

A fuller set of policy documents are available at the nursery.
Behaviour Management

There is a tradition of good behaviour that is passed on from year to year. Peer group disapproval is usually the most successful sanction. A firm word from a staff member followed by a discussion on inappropriate behaviour is usually enough. It may be necessary to move a child to a different activity. Persistent bad behaviour is discussed with the parents.

Complaints

Any concerns or complaints should initially be discussed with a member of staff.  The manager is available for discussions but it should be remembered that an appointment may be advisable so as not to intrude on teaching time or other duties.
Any complaints that are not resolved at school can be taken to:
OFSTED Early Years, National Business Unit, Royal Exchange Buildings, St Ann’s Square, Manchester, M2 7LA.
Tel: 08456 404040.

Non-Collection Policy

If an adult other than the usual person is collecting your child, a member of staff must have written notification in advance, or in emergencies, a phone call.

A parent who is unable to collect their child within 10 minutes of the expected time should telephone to explain the delay. Staff will try telephoning home and emergency numbers after 15 minutes and will notify the social services after 30 minutes. Any child not collected will remain at school with a member of staff until a solution is reached.

Child Protection

Staff have attended courses on child abuse, and are aware of the correct procedures.
